GPS Interface

By default the Motorola Oncore VP GPS receiver sends out GPS data in Motorola binary format. The GPS receiver can be asked to send out NEMA 0183 sentences by connecting it to a terminal or a PC running terminal emulation program and sending out the convert commands in chat mode (see above documentation). You can also use Motorola's WinOncore12 program to do that too. Using WinOncore12 you can also tweak other options of your GPS receiver.

The communication port of the GPSreceiver is on TTL level and to convert it to RS232 levels (PC) you have to use level shifters like MAX232 (5v) or MAX3232 <3v>. Recently I made an interface to do that. I have used HIN232CP from Intersil and have used a few 0805 (smt) caps. There is also a 5v regulator to provide power to the GPS and the interface.
